Tu B'Shvat

Come and enjoy this festive 16th century Sephardic tradition of a Tu B'Shvat Seder geared for adults. Arden Shenker, a fourth generation Oregonian who focuses his Portland law practice on complex energy, environmental, business, and civil litigation will facilitate the Seder and lecture on: "What would Moses say about Global Warming?"
Mr. Shenker has always been prominently active in Jewish and social issues, serving as acting chair of the Coaliton on the Environment and Jewish Life. COEJL, in addition to serving as President of the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland and as a Director since 1964.
Women - Ancient Paradigms and Contemporary Perspectives
with Dr. Erica Goldman

In this session we will cover one of the topics in the Melton Purpose of Jewish Living curriculum which looks at different biblical perspectives of women's roles compared with men's. In this perspective we find the basis of virtually all views, ancient and contemporary, on gender role and equality between the sexes. It is exciting to learn the source of these views. In adition, we will study a few short sections from Bereshit/Genesis. These texts will no doubt generate a lot of lively discussion!
Dr. Goldman teaches music and T'filah at the Portland Jewish Academy. She is on the Melton faculty and is coordinator of the Portland Women's T'filah.
Prayer Class for
Wednesdays Apr 2, 9, 16, 30, 7:00 P.M.
So many of us pray, but do we really understand what we pray for? Do we pray correctly? Is there a wrong way to pray? Can we get better at it? All this and much more regarding keva, kavanah will be explored in these sessions with Cantor Vitells.
Getting Ready for Passover

Desperately looking for new recipes? Wondering how they taste? Ladies, we are celebrating Rosh Chodesh Nisan with home cooked recipes for Passover. Bring your favorite dish to our host home location. We will study a little, talk a little, taste a little and have lots of fun! Location to be determinded.
